Make Food Not Waste, a Detroit-based nonprofit, is seeking a Communications Director to join its team. We are a fast-growing environmental organization focused on food waste reduction in Michigan. The Communications Director will play a pivotal role in our growth and success by honing our brand and messaging, leading our communications initiatives, and managing communications-related projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute the organization’s overall communications strategy
- Manage media relations, including writing press releases, pitching stories, and building relationships with journalists
- Oversee digital marketing efforts, including social media, email campaigns, and website content
- Create compelling content, including articles, videos, and infographics, that educates and engages our audience
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure a unified message across all platforms and develop materials as needed
- Monitor and report on the effectiveness of communication strategies
- Select and manage outside communications contractors
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field
- At least 5 years of experience in a communications or marketing role, preferably in a nonprofit setting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful communication strategies
- Proficiency in digital marketing tools and platforms
- Preference or strength in collaborative decision-making and project management

Compensation:
- Salary of $56,000
